“What’s it like to publish your memoir, Sue?”
“It feels a bit like running naked down Brighton Pier!”
“A bit scary then?”
“Yes.”
“So, why did you write it?”
For me but also –
for allies, for sceptics, for friends, for lesbians,
for folk who think it’s alright now.
for hope, for breakfast, for joy and sadness, for deep dark days
for folk who are frightened to say.
for blue sea, for dark chocolate, for lumps in my throat,
for rays of light,
for folk still silent and scared.
