more weaving

photoMy learning progresses as I dress my floor loom again.  It’s been interesting to revisit warping techniques again and how I make sure all is even on the back beam as well as the front.

It’s tie up this morning now that I have set up 8 shafts.

First weave on Frances

I have spent several days now threading and learning about lams and treadling of my wonderful counter-march loom and today, at last I began to weave.  There were many interruptions as I adjusted sheds up and down and all is not balanced but I have begun what I hope to be a long-lasting and fruitful relationship with Frances.

floor loom

Excitement today as I put my first warp on my floor loom she is a Glimakra Standard loom and I’ve named her Frances. I’m learning the language of lams, apron strings and threading up. Today I’m hoping to complete a universal threading to allow me to weave on 4 shafts.

Project 4 reflections

Choosing inspiration from either Turner or Henry Moore to design accessories for an imaginary shop; I explored Turner. My approach was to explore colour and texture taking each of the paintings and then focusing in on a line of colour, following the energy and light in the picture.  Here are some of the results including design sheets.

Glimakra Standard floor loom….

Glimakra LoomThis is my autumn project … a gorgeous second hand counter-march floor loom to assemble and get to know.  It will take me a while but I hope to be using it into the winter and for my final weaving project due in the Spring 2015.

Any of you weavers out there who have one of these, I’d love to be in contact ..

Project 3 finished :)

I presented my work at Handweavers this week-end completing the third project. My fictional client: George Indiana Jones is a geologist. She has a collection of rock specimens and prints from her field trips. She is a Fellow at The University of  Cross-Bedding  and has requested fabrics for soft furnishing and window treatments for refurbishing her study.  Her particular interest is in the geology of metamorphic and sandstone rocks, including formations found in the Canyon Lands of western USA.
  Here’s are a few swatches!
